Lightweight components, such as those used in aircraft, have a core with a honeycomb structure, which is joined with cover layers to form a composite body. Since the core is the shaping element, the two surfaces defined by the end faces of the honeycombs are to be machined by means of cutting or milling tools. Machining of such honeycomb-type workpieces is not difficult as long as the workpiece has a flat surface on one side, because in this case after masking the honeycomb openings on the side of the flat surface with an air-impermeable film, the workpiece is subjected to under pressure, air-permeable table can be held in accordance with the processing, over the entire clamping surface. After profiling the one surface, however, the workpiece is to be turned for machining the opposite surface, so that the workpiece must be stretched over the already profiled surface. The centering of the workpiece relative to the clamping plate requires appropriate measures due to the honeycomb structure of the clamping plate. The open-line structure of the clamping plate also opens up the possibility of being able to produce the receiving surface of the clamping plate with the devices provided for the machining of the workpiece. The clamping plate 10 is sucked in accordance with their processing in an analogous manner by masking a plate side with an air-impermeable film 6 to the table 8.
